Hi, guys welcome back in this video we will be exploring the great Florence cathedral and historic square in the city centre of Florence. With its huge, almost outsized, bulky dome, the Florence cathedral, Santa Maria del Fiore, makes its presence felt, its a spectacular religious centre of the city as a Baptistry and Giotto’s bell tower. looking back into its history, the cathedral grab the attention all around the world in 1400 for its unusual construction
and designing a masonry dome. Traditionally such a dome is supported by a buttress, they are a structural element as you see in the picture but they were promised
to be ignored in the design by former Italian architects due to its political history and it became challenging in those days to construct such a massive masonry octagonal dome for the first time.
