The tourism sector is expected to see a further increase of 300,000 visitors in 2024 with citizens of 69 countries travelling to Venezuela visa free. Its capital, Caracas, is known for its cultural institutions and modern skyline. The nation’s cultural heritage shines through in its music, dance, and cuisine, exemplified by the energetic rhythms of salsa and the savory arepas. Venezuela’s natural beauty continues to draw visitors, with attractions like the stunning Angel Falls, the world’s highest uninterrupted waterfall.

In 2023, Venezuela welcomed 1.25 million international visitors, marking a 90% increase from the previous year’s 656,000 visitors, as reported by the Venezuelan Tourism Ministry. Several international airlines have resumed or increased flights to Caracas. In January 2023, Margarita Island welcomed its first European cruise ship in 15 years, bringing 500 tourists, predominantly Germans, to an island now frequented by Russian visitors. That year, Venezuela saw over 30,000 Russian tourists, alongside visitors from Korea, Australia, Germany, and North America. These developments are a positive sign for the tourism sector, which has faced years of stagnation.

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Venezuela is projected to rise by 9.5 trillion U.S. dollars, an increase of 158.67 percent, between 2024 and 2025. Following six years of continuous growth, the GDP is expected to hit a new high of 15.5 trillion U.S. dollars by 2025.

Typically, the dry season, from December to April, is the best period for visiting. The country’s rich cultural tapestry, influenced by indigenous, Spanish, and African elements, is most vividly displayed in its colorful festivals, such as El Callao’s Carnival and the Feria de la Chinita. These festivals feature vibrant music, dance, and traditional attire. Additionally, Venezuela has recently initiated direct flights from Margarita Island to various Russian cities, enhancing accessibility and increasing visitor numbers.

Over the past decade, the once bustling Caribbean island has seen a sharp decline in tourism due to increasing safety concerns and a severe economic crisis that left hotels struggling to provide essential services like running water and electricity.
