IWTA speaks with Sina Lorn Assistant Country Manager, Discova Cambodia

Background:

Growing up on the countryside, outside Siem Reap, Sina had dreams of getting a good job and making money to support her family. She knew she had to study to be able to fulfill this dream.

Life in the village was hard and was quite normal for girls to drop out of school to help their parent fish, sell groceries at the market or help with farming. When her parents asked her to quit school to assist selling groceries, she firmly said no and explained her reasons for wanting to continue to study.

To this day, she’s the only one of her siblings who graduated high school and with a university degree. Although she was told getting a degree in Accounting would be best as more job opportunities, the topic wasn’t aligned with her passion and she quickly found herself in the travel industry.

She started at an entry level job, without any prior experience, and worked her way up to the Assistant Country Manager role. Her desire to always keep learning and be better than yesterday is what drives her ambition.

Listen to her story as a little girl with her hopes and dreams to where she is today.
