The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Monday imposed a travel ban on NBR member Md Matiur Rahman, his wife Layla kaniz and their son Ahammed Toufiqur Rahman Arnob.

Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order, allowing a plea submitted by Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Anwar Hossain.

ACC public prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir confirmed the news to New Age.

ACC in the petition mentioned that there were allegations against NBR official Matiur Rahman that he amassed huge amount of illegal wealth and laundered money in abroad.

It also said that they had information that the accused was secretly trying to leave the country.

ACC has formed a three-member committee against Matiur’s corruption after four previous attempts by the anti-graft body since 2004 bore no fruits.

The finance ministry on Sunday attached custom officer Matiur to its Internal Resources Division in a move to launch a departmental inquiry against him over allegations of amassing illegal assets and wealth.

The allegations of corruption of the NBR official came to light after a video of Matiur’s son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat who bought a goat at a price of Tk 15 lakh, went viral on the social media before Eid-ul-Azha.
